About

Amr, smiling, arms crossed, wearing headphones at his desk; a black-and-white film photograph.

Amr is a geotechnical engineer and a PhD researcher at the Université de Sherbrooke, in Quebec. He studies what happens to pile foundations when the ground around them liquefies in an earthquake.

Before the PhD he spent more than fourteen years on foundations in Egypt and Oman. Alongside it he shoots film, writes a novel and essays, builds small apps, and hosts سكة Suffer, a podcast about mental health in Egyptian Arabic.
